Clouds
2021 - Present
Tom’s series of cyanotypes titled ‘Clouds’ are the result of reading The Philosophy of Andy Warhol where Warhol states “A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good.” To which Tom thought that whereas this manufactured object can exist in the world and seeing it almost daily, what’s natures version?
As such Tom’s ‘Clouds’ series is a response seeking the most natural form of abstraction. Cloud's transient qualities are representative of our contemporary lifestyle, though constantly surrounding us, they pass us by without making a whisper. They allow us transcend reality, in a more accessible way than any other art, their ambiguous forms allow our imagination to be free. We look up when seeking guidance and, in the sky, we see clouds casting phantoms of our own reality as if they’re puppets on a sting, played by a power greater than ourselves. No matter where you stand on earth, we can all engage and stand in its presence of the clouds and become removed from our lives.
